The organizing committee of the sixth ASEM Finance Ministers' Meeting said in Tianjin on June 24 that the northern port city Tianjin has been fully prepared for the meeting, which is due on June 26.
Nearly 28 million yuan (about 3.4 million US dollars) has been invested to improve the traffic and environment in the Tianjin Economic Development Area, where the meeting is centered, sources with the organizing committee said.
Meanwhile, streets near the conference building have been blocked and huge manpower has been deployed to for security.
Leading finance officials from 38 Asian and European countries and the European Union are expected to gather in Tianjin two days later to discuss issues concerning the global economy and closer Asian and European economic cooperation, the Chinese finance ministry said on May 26.
Representatives from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Asian Development Bank will also attend the meeting.
China's Premier Wen Jiabao is expected to attend the opening ceremony of the meeting and delivered a speech.
The documents, to be made public following the meeting, include a statement by the chairperson of the meeting, the Tianjin Initiative, and a report on the effectiveness of the ministerial meeting.
