Fijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase visited east China's coastal city of Qingdao on June 26, seeking more economic cooperation opportunities between the two sides.
In a meeting with Qingdao Mayor Xia Geng Sunday evening, Laisenia Qarase said Fiji and Qingdao enjoy potential prospects in their cooperation in such fields as trade, tourism, fishing and furniture-making, hoping to further promote exchanges and cooperation with Qingdao in these fields.
Xia said home appliance firms and furniture factories in Qingdao also have strong interests in setting up sound cooperative relations with Fijian, believing that Laisenia Qarase's this visit would further promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.
According to Xia, Qingdao and Fiji have witnessed more exchanges in economy and trade in recent years. Qingdao's construction companies once took part in Fiji's building of roads and bridges.
Laisenia Qarase arrived in Beijing Saturday noon for a 5-day working visit to China. Qingdao is the second leg of his China trip. He will then visit Tianjin municipality in north China before returning to Beijing to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Fiji and China.
