China's drug control situation remains severe, Luo GanThe drug control situation in China remains quite severe due to the rapid increase of drug sources, multiway drug abuses and the integration trend of drug making, trafficking and abusing, said a senior Chinese official in Beijing on June 26. Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remark when meeting with members of a delegation which is expected to travel the country spreading the great stories of Wu Guanglin, a policeman who died in a battle against a major armed drug trafficking gang on Aug. 30, 2004. Wu was posthumously awarded the title of "Anti-Drug Hero". "People from different walks of life, especially the policemen, should learn from his spirits," said Luo. He said painstaking efforts devoted by China's anti-drug forces have effectively helped curb drug abuse and reduced its harm to the minimum. "They have contributed greatly to maintaining social stability and safeguarding people's peaceful life," he said. He also called on those working in China's political and law fronts to have a strong belief in Communism, enforcing law for the people and faithfully perform their sacred duties. Source: Xinhua |
