Wen Jiabao has called for more efforts devoted to further the development of the Binhai New District of north China's
Tianjin Municipality so that it may play a bigger role in the development of the Bohai Bay-rim area.
Located between northeast, north and east China, the area is also adjacent to Japan and the Republic of Korea and is viewed as a promising part of Tianjin, which sits on northern China's Bohai Sea, a few hours drive from Beijing.
"To enhance the development and opening of the district is an important step for the implementation of the area's and even the country's development strategy," said Wen when inspecting Tianjin from June 24 to 26.
According to Wen, doing a good job in carrying out the step will be of great significance to the development of Tianjin, the Bohai rim and even for China.

He suggested local governments seize the current development opportunities and work hard to build the district into a modern one that plants a foot in north China, which boasts rich resources and keeps northeast Asia in view.
Currently, he said, the district should develop in a scientific way via appropriately handling the relations between economic construction and social development, accelerated development and coordinated development, and current development and long-term development.
"The government attaches great importance to the opening and development of the district," he said, promising that all related central government departments would cooperate actively for that purpose.
