Cooperative documents on transportation, information superhighway construction, power trade operating and animal epidemics prevention are expected to be signed during the upcoming second summit of the Greater Mekong Subregion on Economic Cooperation Program (GMS), Shen Guofang, assistant Chinese foreign minister, said in Beijing Tuesday.

The meeting will pass leaders' declaration, which reviews GMS ongoing programs and outlines cooperation in the future, Shen told a press conference.

He said the Chinese government will issue the second state report to explain its stance on participating in Mekong-Lancang subregion cooperation.

The second GMS summit is due to be held from July 4 to 5 in Kunming, capital of China's southwest Yunnan Province. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will preside over the meeting and address the opening ceremony.

The prime ministers of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, and Haruhiko Kuroda, president of the Asian Development Bank, will attend the meeting, Shen said.

With the theme of "a stronger GMS partnership for common prosperity", the participants will discuss topics including achievements and challenges, common guidelines governing future GMS cooperation, and the road ahead towards sustainable development, the spokesman said. The GMS business forum, as well as the exhibition on telecommunication will also be held during the summit, Shen said, adding that more than 600 people will show up at the summit.

The spokesman said the Chinese government has paid much attention to the summit, and at present preparatory work is done. Shen hopes the meeting will achieve success through the efforts of all parties.

The GMS was initiated in 1992 by the Asian Development bank, grouping China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The first summit was held in 2002 in Phnom Penh of Cambodia.
