North China's Hebei Province has mapped out an ambitious plan to build 4,315 kilometers of expressway by the year 2010 and set up a comprehensive and advanced expressway network, said the provincial development and reform commission.

By the end of 2004, the province had opened to traffic 70,200 kilometers of various roads, including 1,706 kilometers of expressways.

By 2010, all the major cities in the province will be linked up with expressways with a total length hitting 4,315 kilometers, the commission said.

At present, about 12 sections of various expressways, about 1, 096 kilometers in length, are under construction in the province. And another 10 sections of the 6 expressways totaling more than 1, 500 kilometers are expected to be launched by the end of this year.
