Fijian PM visits north China's port cityFijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase visited Tianjin on June 28, acquainting himself with the economic and social situation in this largest port city in north China some 130 kilometers to the southeast of Beijing. Tianjin Mayor Dai Xianglong said in a meeting with Laisenia Qarase that Tianjin has witnessed rapid economic growth in recent years, hoping that such rapid economic growth would push forward the exchanges and cooperation between China and Fiji. "Fijian businesses are welcomed to invest in Tianjin, and Tianjin companies are encouraged to develop the market in Fiji," Dai said. Laisenia Qarase congratulated Tianjin on achieving great progress in economic and social development, noting that the Tianjin economic development zone sets a good example for other cities and countries to promote economic growth. Laisenia Qarase hoped that more Chinese people and Tianjin citizens would make investment in and travel to Fiji, so as to expand exchanges between the two sides. Before visiting Tianjin, Laisenia Qarase concluded his two-day tour of the coastal city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province and arrived in Beijing Monday afternoon. The prime minister and his party left Tianjin for Beijing later Tuesday for attending a reception marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Fiji, continuing his working visit to China.
