China's power consumption hits Summer peak

More than half of China's state power grids have been operating above their last-year's maximum capacity because the broiling Summer has come earlier.

It was disclosed at a work conference of the State Power Grid Corporation on power grid reconstruction and power supply safety held in Beijing Tuesday.

So far, power grids in north, east and central China as well as a number of major regions such as Beijing and Shanghai municipalities have found their power consumption setting a record high.

For instance, the power load of the Beijing Power Grid reached 9.9 million kw on June 23, about 460,000 kw more last year's figure.

The power load of the Shanghai Power Grid hit 15.5 million kw Monday, about 430,000 kw more than its previous record.

To prevent possible power failure in the Summer supply period, Liu Zhenya, general manger of the State Power Grid Corporation, urged all power grids to establish an emergency mechanism.
