Development of relations across the Taiwan Straits is embracing a new historical opportunity, said Wang Fuqing, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, while attending the Hubei Wuhan and Taiwan Week.

Personnel, economic and cultural exchanges have all reached a rather large scale and high level. Common interests are growing and the effect of economic mutual benefits is further unfolding.

By March Taiwan compatriots have invested in more than 6,500 projects in the mainland with contracted Taiwan investment of over $80 billion and more than $40 billion Taiwan investment in actual use.

The cross-Straits trade volume has exceeded $420 billion so far. A total of more than 3.3 million visits have been made by the Taiwan compatriots to the mainland and over one million visits by mainlanders to Taiwan.
