font size

The 16th meeting of the 10th National People's Congress of China approved treaties on criminal judicial assistance between China and Brazil and Latvia, respectively, as well as an extradition treaty between China and the Philippines on Friday.

The treaty on criminal judicial assistance between China and Brazil was signed by Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing in Beijing on May 24, 2004, and the similar treaty between China and Latvia was signed by Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo in Beijing on April 15, 2004.

The extradition treaty was signed by then Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan in Beijing on Oct. 30, 2001.

According to China's law, a treaty concerning foreign affairs signed by the government does not take effect until it secures the approval of the National People's Congress or its Standing Committee.
