A workshop focusing on long-term land-use planning in Nepal was held here Saturday.
"As land is an important asset in Nepal and activities for physical development for economic resources are solely concentrated on land, the need of long-term land-use planning and its implementation based on geographical structure, quality and capacity has been realized for its multidimensional and balanced development," Prem Bahadur Maharjan, chief of the land use project, said at the workshop.
The participants also stressed the need of scientific classification of land, and integrated approach and coordination among government, non-government organizations as well as local authorities in implementation of land use planning.
Land use project has been prepared to determine working process, institutional structure and legal provisions of land use, Maharjan noted. Land classification has been carried out in the first phase in 22 districts of Nepal, he said.
The workshop was organized by the Nepalese government, the Ministry of land reform and Management and National Land Use Project.
Chiefs and representatives of Ministry of land reform and Management and various offices under the Finance Ministry participated at the workshop.
