Some 20 Iraqis killed in suicide attack in Baghdad
font size

About 20 Iraqis were killed and dozens others wounded on Saturday when a suicide bomber struck a recruitment center for police commandos in western Baghdad, police said.

"A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up among a crowd of would-be police commandos queuing outside a recruitment center near Nussur Square in western Baghdad," Col. Adnan Abdul-Rahman, an Interior Ministry spokesman told Xinhua.

The attack took place at about 9: 00 a.m. (0500 GMT), killing some 20 recruits and wounding dozens of people, Rahman said.

Insurgents often use suicide bomb attacks targeting Iraqi security forces in an attempt to cripple the new Iraqi government formed two months ago.
