Egypt's Supreme Constitutional Court on Saturday approved amendments introduced by the People's Assembly (PA) to the new elections law, the official MENA news agency reported in Cairo.
The court made the ruling after President Hosni Mubarak referred the PA-adopted amendments to the court for approval in late June.
The court sent a reply to President Mubarak, noting that the new elections law with the amendments was constitutional, MENA said.
The PA approved the new law in mid-June, which regulates Egypt's first multi-candidate presidential elections after voters across the country okayed amendments to the constitution in a referendum on May 25 to allow more than one candidate to run in presidential elections.
The law sets rules to regulate campaigning, funding and monitoring of the presidential polls and establishes a Supreme Electoral Committee to supervise the whole process.
