China to promote education cooperation with Australia: State Councilor

China and Australia should make efforts to promote cooperation in education field, said Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili in Beijing on July 4.

In a meeting with Brendan Nelson, Australia's Minister for Education, Science and Training, Chen said China and Australia now enjoy best period in the development of bilateral ties, with potential prospect in cooperation in science, technology and education.

Chen hoped that education ministries of China and Australia would fully exert the function of the established consultation mechanism in the vice ministerial level, in a bid to push forward the education cooperation between the two sides.

Nelson and his party paid the visit to China at the invitation of the Ministry of Education.
