font size

Government leaders of the six GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion) countries issued a declaration Tuesday at the Second GMS Summit in Kunming, capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

In the declaration, dubbed the Kunming Declaration, the leaders said their countries would build a closer and stronger partnership for common prosperity.

The leaders said they were determined to carry forward the development agenda aimed at lifting more people from poverty and promoting sustainable development for all.

"We resolve to achieve that goal by further enhancing connectivity, competitiveness and community building," they added.

The leaders also pledged that they would redouble their efforts in four key areas, namely, to reinforce infrastructure for development, to improve trade and investment environment, to strengthen social and environmental infrastructure, and to mobilize resources and deepen partnership.

The GMS countries refer to Cambodia, China, the Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, which share the Lancang-Mekong River. The six countries established an economic cooperation mechanism in 1992 with assistance from the Asian Development Bank.
