Cross-Straits cooperation in information industry should be strengthened: official
font size

Cross-Straits cooperation in information industry should be strengthened, with compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits supporting each other, a Chinese senior official said Tuesday in Beijing.

Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks here Tuesday when meeting with a delegation of the Sinocon Industrial Standard Foundation headed by Chiang Pin-kung, vice-chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT). Chiang and his delegation are here to attend a Cross-Straits Forum on Industrial Standards in the Information Industry.

Extending a warm welcome to the delegation, Chen said the forum was jointly organized by the Sinocon Foundation and the two Chinese associations as an important measure to implement the consensus reached by the two sides when the KMT Chairman Lien Chan visited the Chinese mainland.

"The Chinese mainland attaches great importance to and has made full preparation for the forum," Chen said. "We hope that a platform can be established on the basis of this forum to boost exchanges and cooperation between the two sides."

"We welcome the Sinocon Foundation to establish close ties of cooperation with the Chinese mainland in information technology to promote development of information industry across the straits," he added.

Chiang said the two sides had reached consensus on developing 12 economic and trade cooperation projects during his visit to the mainland last March. "Each project is beneficial to Taiwan economy," he said, adding "implementation of the 12 projects will make the two sides mutual benefit."

Chiang said the information industry is the lifeline of Taiwan economy. He expects the forum will be a good start for cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation in industrial standards and information industry.
