The 10th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 10th CPPCC National Committee started Tuesday, aiming to solicit opinions for building a "harmonious socialist society."
Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) presided over the meeting and made a speech.
Jia said building up a harmonious socialist society is an important socialist cause with Chinese characters. Therefore, members of the CPPCC Standing Committee should try their best to contribute valuable opinions and suggestions to the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to build a harmonious society.
State Councilor Zhou Yongkang was invited to make a keynote speech at the meeting. He said the current Chinese society is basically harmonious and stable, but unharmonious and unstable factors still exist. Some problems were even severe.
He stressed that people concerned should stick to the "people first" principle, take measures to maintain social stability and vigorously pressure governmental departments to exert their governing rights by law, so as to eliminate destabilizing social factors and ultimately build up a harmonious society.
