Chinese President Hu Jintao said on July 5 relations between China and Kyrgyzstan are based on a strong foundation and have yielded tangible results.

In a meeting with acting Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who is here to attend the fifth summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Hu said China values relations with Kyrgyzstan and views the Central Asian nation as a good neighbor and partner.

Since the two countries established diplomatic relations 13 years ago, bilateral cooperation has achieved remarkable results, providing an important guarantee for the healthy development of Chinese-Kyrgyz ties, Hu said.

The Chinese president expressed willingness to work with Kyrgyzstan to boost bilateral ties.

Bakiyev, for his part, said Kyrgyzstan will not change its position on cooperation with the SCO and its policy on developing friendly ties with China. Kyrgystan will implement all the agreements with China, he added.

The Chinese president described bilateral economic and trade ties as growing rapidly, saying two-way trade is continuously expanding and investment increasing.

Bakiyev said his country is faced with the task of developing its national economy and hopes to strengthen cooperation in transportation and infrastructure with China.

Bakiyev briefed Hu on the domestic situation in Kyrgyzstan and the country's stand on the situation in Central Asia.

Hu said China respects the choice of the Kyrgyz people and supports their efforts to safeguard national independence and sovereignty and develop the national economy.

Central Asia is home to some destabilizing forces and uncertainties, and strengthening security cooperation is significant to maintaining regional stability, the Chinese president said.

Earlier in the day, Hu attended the SCO summit with leaders from member states of the organization, which groups China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
