China's top legislator stresses scientific socio-economic development

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has urged people in the eastern province of Shandong to follow the scientific approach to a well oordinated economic and social development.

During his inspection tour of the developed province between July 1 and 7, Wu called on the people to pay more attention to the structure, quality and efficiency of economic growth, the coordinated economic and social development, and the harmony between man and nature.

Priority must be given to scientific and technological innovation, energy conservation, and the settlement of deep-rooted problems to narrow the gap between east and west China and between cities and the countryside, said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

He also stressed special attention to the needy people so that all the people could enjoy the fruit of the country's reform and development and strive for common affluence.

During his weeklong tour, Wu visited more than 20 large companies, hi-tech businesses, software parks and vegetable and fruit production bases in eight cities, including the provincial capital of Jinan.
