Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong (R) shakes hands with Prime Minister of Grenada Keith Mitchell during their meeting in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, July 8, 2005.
Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong said Friday in Beijing that China and Grenada have begun their comprehensive cooperation in various fields since they resumed diplomatic ties in January this year.

The resumption of diplomatic ties has actually opened a new chapter for bilateral relations, said Zeng in a meeting with visiting Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell.

Mitchell arrived in Beijing Thursday morning for a five-day official visit to China as guest of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. It is Mitchell's first visit since the two countries resumed diplomatic ties.

In the past half a year, China and Grenada have witnessed sound development in bilateral relations, with mutual understanding and friendship increasing gradually, said Zeng. The two countries are working to enhance cooperation in the fields of politics, trade, agriculture and education.

The two developing countries have treat equally and respect each other, maintain high-level contacts and promote political trust, he said.

The two countries also enjoy big potential in economic cooperation and will see more exchanges and cooperation in trade, education and tourism, in addition to non-governmental exchanges.

Zeng said China attaches great importance to relations with Grenada, and hopes the two countries could make joint efforts to promote their friendly cooperation in all fields.

Mitchell said the resumption of diplomatic ties with China is a correct choice, which complies with the interests of the two countries and peoples.

He expressed appreciation over the active role China has played in international affairs and thanked China's support for Grenada's economic construction.

Grenada will continue to push forward bilateral relations with China, Mitchell said.
