The Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) opened Friday a Chinese training class to the ethnic teachers of the primary and middle schools in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

More than 300 minority teachers in the region will attend the 40-day class.

The university has made specific training plans for the course and also brought more than 30 sorts of teaching materials, tapes and reference books for the trainees.

Wang Lujiang, secretary of the university's Communist Party of China committee, said the trainees will be given courses on Chinese phonetics, vocabulary and grammar and also some contents concerning pedagogy.

She said the training class is a part of the "training program of Xinjiang primary and middle school Chinese language teachers", which was launched by the Ministry of Education aiming to enhance the Chinese teaching proficiency of 8,800 teachers in the autonomous region.
