The European Union (EU) has decided to launch an anti-dumping investigation into leather-upper shoes produced in Vietnam, according to a press conference held by Vietnam's Trade Ministry here Friday.
An official announcement of the European Commission (EC) has made the decision following the anti-dumping lawsuit filed by the European leather shoes association, said Dinh My Loan, Director of the Ministry's Department for Competition Control.
The EU did not consider Vietnam as countries having market economies, but chose Brazil as the basis for assessing the cost of the product, he added.
The investigations are scheduled in September into selected companies, said the director. He also urged Vietnam's Leather and Shoes Association to guide businesses to rapidly prepare for the lawsuit.
