font size

The Taiwan New Party delegation, led by its Chairman Yok Mu-ming, visited the site of former Japan-Russia Prison Saturday morning in Dalian, a port city in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

Situated at No. 139 Xiangyang Street, Lushunkou District of Dalian, the prison was built by tsarist Russia in 1902 and was extended by Japan in 1907.

Within the enclosing wall, the prison covers an area of 226,000 sq m with 275 cells capable of accommodating more than 2,000 persons simultaneously.

From 1906 to 1936, many people from China, Japan, Russia and Egypt were imprisoned and slaughtered in the prison.

At the end of the visit, Yok expressed his indignation at what he had seen in the prison, saying: "We should make an extra effort for our generations."

Another member of the delegation said, "The history tells us that only a powerful country can protect its own people. Therefore the Chinese people should redouble their efforts to this end."

The New Party delegation also visited the Memorial Hall of Wanzhong Cemetery in Lushun.
