South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Monday reached fruitful agreements on promoting inter-Korean economic cooperation.
South Korean and the DPRK delegations to the 10th Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Promotion Committee Meeting reached agreements on various inter-Korean projects and cooperation, local 24-hour TV news channel YTN reported.
The report said Kim Hong-jae, a spokesman of South Korea's Unification Ministry told reporters gathered at the meeting venue the two sides agreed to cooperate in mining and light industries beginning next year, to hold inter-Korean fisheries talks on July 25-27 in the DPRK's border town of Kaesong, and to open inter- Korean economic cooperation office in Kaesong in September.
South Korea and the DPRK are jointly building industrial park in Kaesong, where a score of South Korean companies opened factories.
The two sides also agreed to open two cross-border railways on trial basis and hold ceremony marking opening of adjacent roads in this October, according to Kim.
The two delegations to the economic talks later are to formally release a joint statement containing 12 agreements over inter- Korean economic cooperation as the two sides were still working on some details, said YTN.
The inter-Korean economic talks officially kicked off last Sunday, one day after the DPRK and the United States reached the agreement to resume the six-party nuclear talks in the last week of July.
The inter-Korean economic dialogues had been suspended for 13 months. The 15th round of Inter-Korean Ministerial Meeting held in late June here decided to reopen the economic meeting in July.
The DPRK delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Construction and Building Material Industries Choe Yong Gon, is scheduled to leave Seoul for home on Tuesday morning.
