A total of 37 Vietnamese women who were trafficked to China have been rescued thanks to joint police operations early this month, A Chinese official said Monday in Nanning.
The police officers from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in South China and Vietnam jointly rescued the women by cracking nine human-trafficking cases from July 1 to 9, capturing eight suspects, including six Vietnamese, said Xu Xiaofan, spokesman for the Public Security Department of Guangxi.
Guangxi and bordering Vietnam have witnessed increasing exchanges in politics, economy, culture and other fields but also suffered rampant women and child abduction in recent years.
Guangxi police alone solved 23 such cases in the last few years, rescuing 58 abducted Vietnamese women and arresting 40 suspects.
After meeting in April in China, the police forces of both sides decided to launch a two-month joint campaign starting from July 1 to crack down on human trafficking across the border.
Since then, police officers from both sides have reinforced border checking and the tracking of criminal clues, said Xu, promising that more trafficked people are expected to be rescued as tense investigations proceed.
