Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai said Wednesday that China is opposing the subdivision of developing countries.

He made the remarks at a news briefing following the conclusion of the WTO Informal Ministerial Meeting here Wednesday, stressing that certain countries only focus on the least developed countries (LDC) in the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) Negotiations.

"But for the general developing countries, they said these developing countries have been developed, they even brought up a new term like 'big developed developing countries', " said Bo.

Bo noted that China is one of the developing countries and has been always a good friend of LDCs. In the Doha negotiations, China advocated more attention to the development issues of the LDCs and called for members to take practical measures to help LDCs address their deepest concerns and enjoy tangible and visible interests.

But China is against the subdivision of general developing countries, said Bo, adding that the countries like China, Brazil, India and Indonesia, are all developing countries with large populations. They still have many difficulties to be solved though they have achieved some economic achievements, said Bo.

These countries are populous, and the governments of these countries bear the heavy burdens of social problems and poverty issues.

Bo said that China is a big trade partner which likes to take responsibilities. Though China has a lot of difficulties and problems to tackle, China has taken a positive attitude toward the Doha round and actively helped move negotiation forward.
