China lost to Cuba 3-2 in their opening match at the women's volleyball World Grand Prix final round.

It was the second defeat for China in the tournament following the loss to Italy in Hong Kong on Sunday.

The Olympic champions took the first and second sets easily at 25-10, 25-20 with excellent blocks and aces. But their arch rival launched a strong counter-attack by winning the following three sets.

China is to play Italy on Thursday, featuring the second meeting of the two teams after the Hong Kong match.
