Chirac reiterates support to Brazil's UN bidFrench president Jacques Chirac reiterated on Friday his support for Brazil's bid for permanent seat of the United Nations (UN) Security Council. "We support Brazil's candidature for a permanent membership at the UN Security Council," Chirac told a joint news conference with visiting Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Brazil, along with Germany, India and Japan, have introduced a draft resolution in the UN General Assembly seeking enlargement of the Security Council from 15 to 25 members. The initiative envisaging the creation of six new permanent seats without veto power and four non-permanent seats is backed by 23 countries including France and the European Union, but was rejected by the United States.
