"Historic Center of Macao" approved as world heritage

Performers stage traditional Chinese opera in front of the Ruins of St. Paul's in the historic area of Macao in this undated file photo. China was on July 15, 2005 officially awarded its 31st World Heritage Site, the Historic Center of Macao, during the 29th session of the World Heritage Committee, being held in Durban of South Africa. Macao's historic settlement, encompassing architectural legacies interwoven in the midst of the original urban fabric that includes streetscapes and piazzas, is the fruit of over 400 years of cultural exchange between the western world and Chinese civilization.
