China enrolls record number of sergeants to beef up high-tech capability
font size

About 35 Chinese military academies will enroll a record number of 15,000 sergeant students this fall in line with the principle of building a technology-intensive army.

According to Monday's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Daily, the students, who are expected to study more than 200 majors, will mainly serve on technical posts.

"Calculated on the basis of the current training process, all the key technical posts will be occupied by skilled sergeants years later," said an officer in charge of the sergeant enrollment work.

The curriculum of the sergeant majors, he said, was designed to echo the equipment upgrading process.
