HK airport cargo throughput up 12.7 pct in June

Hong Kong Airport Authority said Sunday the Hong Kong International Airport saw a robust cargo throughput growth in June.

The authority said the cargo throughput of the airport last month increased 12.7 percent over the same period last year, reaching 280,000 tons due to strong demand for exports from the US and Europe.

During the same month, 3.3 million passengers traveled through the airport, up 6.9 percent, while aircraft movements surged 10.4 percent to 21,265.

In the first six months of this year, passenger throughput was 19.4 million, cargo volume 1.6 million tons and aircraft movements at 124,700.

The authority said the figures showed encouraging growth in all categories of air traffic, adding a continuous growth trend would be expected and new traffic records might be set by year's end.
