Amy Gillett, one of Australia's top women cyclists, was killed and five teammates injured when a car hit them as they were training for a road race in Germany, Cycling Australia announced on Tuesday.

Gillett was killed when a car driven by an 18-year-old woman hit the riders at the speed of 80km per hour outside the German city of Leipzig.

"We do have at least one rider in critical condition and three others in serious condition," Cycling Australia spokeswoman Gennie Sheer said to the Nine Network television.

The name of the injuries were Katie Brown, Lorian Graham, Kate Nichols, Louise Yaxley and Alexis Rhodes.

Gillett was on the Australia's World Cup and Commonwealth Games teams. She also rode for Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
