IBM's profit up to US$1.83 bln, HP to trim 14, 500 jobs

IBM has seen its net profit in the second quarter rise to US$1.83 billion and there are signs showing resurging demand for its science and technology services, according to Chinese International Finance News.

The newspaper also says that Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Mark Hurd has decided to cut 14, 500 jobs so as to put down costs to the same level with that of its rival Dell. It will be the biggest reduction of staff of the company since 2002.
