The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) reiterated on Wednesday it firmly opposes Japan's bid for permanent membership in the UN Security Council (UNSC).
"Japan's wrong attitude and stand toward its past history of aggression have greatly enraged the Asian people. The UN's prestige is bound to be damaged if permanent membership of the UNSC goes to Japan," the DPRK's leading newspaper Rodong Sinmun said in a signed article.
"The ultra-right forces in Japan are desperately justifying the aggression committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past, making Tokyo fail to win confidence from its neighboring countries," the article added.
The article also condemned Japan's diplomatic policy, saying it "acts at the beck and call of its American master without its own principle."
"That will only mean one more vote for the US in the UNSC," the article stressed.
The article again criticized Japan's "childish way of thinking that money is everything no matter how severe contempt it may suffer from the international community."
"Japan would be well advised to honestly admit past crimes, fully compensate for them and turn over a new leaf... This is an urgent task for Japan and the demand of the world," the article stressed.
"The world community should never allow Japan to take a seat on the UNSC unless it fulfills the above task," it added.
