Kuomintang invites outgoing chairman to take honorary postThe Central Standing Committee of the Kuomintang (KMT) in Taiwan adopted a motion Wednesday to invite chairman Lien Chan to serve as the party's honorary chairman after his resignation, according to the official website of the party. The motion, adopted at a regular meeting of the committee, will be submitted to the upcoming 17th National Congress of the party for approval. Jointly put forward by the five vice-chairmen and 31 members of the Central Standing Committee, the motion urged Lien Chan to take the post after his resignation to boost the unity of the Kuomintang, strengthen the "Pan-Blue" alliance and mobilize various forces "that support peace, democracy, prosperity and justice" to promote peace across the Taiwan Straits. According to a local media report, KMT vice-chairman Wang Jin-pyng, who chaired the meeting, has informed Lien Chan of the adoption of the motion.
