China to push forward ties with Papua New Guinea

The Chinese government highly appreciates the Papua New Guinea (PNG) government's adherence to the one-China policy, and is ready to expand the two countries' cooperation in various areas, said Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing in Beijing Wednesday.

Li made the remarks when meeting with Rabbie Namaliu, minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration in PNG.

Li said PNG is the largest island country in the south Pacific region. The Chinese government values its friendly cooperation ties with PNG.

He said at present, the two sides enjoy sound development momentum for bilateral relations, and keep close exchanges in various fields.

The leaders of the two countries attach great importance to bilateral relations, which provide a solid political guarantee for the development of bilateral relations, he said.

He said the Chinese government is willing to make joint efforts with the PNG to fulfill the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, adhering to the principles of the 1976 communique on diplomatic ties between China and PNG and the joint press communique signed between the two sides in 2004.

Namaliu said that the PNG government is satisfied with the rapid development of PNG-China relations in recent years. The PNG government treasures its friendly relations with China, and will firmly pursue the one-China policy.

He said the PNG government is willing to enhance the mutual-beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields and benefit the two peoples.
