China's Consumer Price Index up 1.6 percent in June

China's general Consumer Price Index (CPI) reported a year-on-year increase of 1.6 percent in June, a monthly report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Thursday.

Compared with the consumer price level in May, the price index dropped 0.8 percent.

The combined consumer price level from January to June went up 2.3 percent on the yearly basis, according to the NBS report.

In June, food prices rose 2.1 percent year on year while non-food prices went up 1.3 percent; consumer product prices increased 1 percent while service product prices went up 3.7 percent.

Among foodstuff, grain prices dropped 1.1 percent. However, prices of poultry and meat rose 4 percent, egg prices reported a rise of 7.7 percent, and that of aquatic products and vegetables up 1.6 percent and 8.9 percent respectively.

Prices for transportation and communications dropped 1.3 percent, and those for recreational, educational and cultural goods and service rose 2.7 percent.

Prices for housing went up 5.8 percent. Prices of water, electricity and fuel also saw an 8.9 percent increase year on year, with prices of construction and furnishing materials climbing 2.9 percent and the housing rental price increasing 2.2 percent.
