Brazilian striker Ailton Da Silva joined Besiktas of Turkey from Schalke 04 of Germany on Thursday for euro 3 million (3.65 million US dollars).

The 32-year-old signed a two-year contract with an option for another year, the Istanbul club said on its Web site.

Ailton was welcomed by hundreds of fans upon his arrival in Istanbul late Wednesday.

"I came to a super club. We'll play well as a team and be the champions," Ailton said.

Ailton moved to Schalke a year ago after a six-year stint with Werder Bremen and scored 14 goals last season. The German club made him available for transfer after signing Germany striker Kevin Kuranyi.
