Real Madrid's Brazilian head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo promised Thursday that the side will do their best to put on a spectacular match for Chinese football fans.
The Spanish football giants, featuring a selection of the greatest players in the world, will face China Super League (CSL) club Beijing Guo'an tomorrow at Beijing Workers' Stadium.
"I am looking forward to the match tomorrow. I am expecting that our players will play a wonderful match," said Luxemburgo.
"We'll take the game very seriously. Although it's a friendly, for our league and our club at this point in maturation, playing well against them is important. We're still establishing credibility."
Real Madrid, winners of a record 29 Spanish league titles, are widely recognized as the world's most star-studded soccer club.
They made their first trip to China in 2002 when they played the Chinese national team, causing a stir among fans.
Boasting a galaxy of the world's soccer superstars such as David Beckham, Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Michael Owen, Roberto Carlos and captain Raul Gonzales, Real Madrid will continue its pre-season preparations in the Far East after matches in the United States last week.
They will leave for Tokyo on Sunday.
"Two years ago, we received an unexpected welcome and hospitality here in China. I am so grateful that our team has such support from the Chinese fans," said the club's vice president Emilio Butragueno.
"The memory is still fresh and it is feeling great to be here again."
To Chinese fans, the bad news is that Beckham reportedly suffered a slight hamstring strain while taking a free kick against LA Galaxy in California on Monday night, and is not sure if he will be playing in China.
To Beijing Guo'an, the match is a rare chance for the players to learn.
"We are going to compete against a great team. We will play our game and will not care about the result. Anway, the experience to play with the world's top team is more important," said Shen Xiangfu, head coach of the Beijing club.
"I hope this kind of exchange and co-operation will continue over the years. It will help develop China's football."
There have been speculations that Beijing Guo'an and Real Madrid will reach a specific agreement for further co-operation during this China tour.
Five months ago, the two sides started negotiations and discussions have been going on ever since.
But reports said the deal will be postponed due to some disagreements. Real Madrid offered to buy 60 per cent of the Guo'an company, but the club insists on holding the major share.
It was also rumoured that Real would allow Guo'an to use their brand to form a "Beijing Guo'an and Real Madrid Club" to play CSL matches in China.
But Real have apparently dropped the plan, fearing the current unstable football environment in China will affect their image around the world.
