Beijing government to seek suggestions from Beijingers

From now on, Beijing will collect suggestions from ordinary Beijingers concerning the drafting of the 11th Five-Year Plan, which is learned by Wang Jianxin with People's Daily from the Beijing Municipal Commission for Development and Reform on July 21. It is the first time for the Beijing government to solicit suggestions on urban planning from common people in the past more than 50 years.

Related departments will hold four suggestion meetings in the coming two months. The first is scheduled for August 6 and the rest will be held every other Saturday. The topics will be in the following order: the population pressure, building a conversation-minded city, solving traffic jams, and the solution of employment and social security problems. Forty citizen representatives will be invited to each meeting.

According to an introduction, there will not be any limitations on the participants. From July 21, those who are interested can enter their names for the activity by Internet, letters and text messages.

Beijing has mapped out 10 five-year plans since 1953 and the next plan for developing its national economy and society is in process of intensive drafting.
