Sweden condemns London bombing
font size

Swedish Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds condemned the most recent attempted attacks on London as "abominable crimes", Radio Sweden reported on Friday.

"Even if the attacks cannot be compared to those of July 7th, it's alarming that terrorists apparently have the capacity and organization to carry out this type of abominable crimes," she said in a statement.

Freivalds added that the long-term political consequences are hard to judge at this time, and that the threat ahead is very serious and perhaps greater than was previously believed.

She said this underlines the need for continued co-operation in the fight against terrorism and its causes. Freivalds appreciated the British government's determination and calm in its handling often situation.

On Thursday, four explosions took place almost simultaneously at three underground stations and a bus in east London. These incidents came two weeks after bombs in the city killed 56 people on three underground trains and a bus.
