France reinforces security measures after London blasts

French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin announced Friday that all measures were taken for French's security and a certain number of new facilities were reinforced.

He said that all French territory is in solidarity and mobilization, one day following new bomb attacks in London.

He also said that a number of new facilities were reinforced, including mobile phones and video surveillance.

At the same day French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy promised to step up surveillance of radical Islamic clerics.

"Everyone in France has the right to practice his religion ... but when you look at the age of these young suicide bombers in London you can see the influence of radical preachers on these weak spirits. I do not intend to tolerate it," he said on a visit to Corsica.

"We have decided that we must increase our means for video surveillance, speed up the introduction of the latest in telephone technology and information-processing and launch a large-scale project for the early detection of radicalizing elements," he said.

According to Sarkozy, who is also head of the ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party, the decision was taken after he spoke to Villepin and anti-terrorist experts Thursday evening.

He said France would expel imams who preach violence in the wake of the July 7 bombings that killed 56 people.

France has raised its four-level security system (yellow, orange, red, scarlet) to "red" alert since July 7, with patrolling intensified in train, metro stations and airports and police making random checks on passengers.
