Vietnam, China determined to expand ties: editorial

The visit to China by Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong from July 18 to 22 is very successful, showing the two countries' determination to broaden and deepen their friendly and all-round cooperative relations, local newspaper People said in an editorial on Saturday.

"The official visit to China by President Tran Duc Luong shows the broad consensus of the two countries' leaders about all issues of mutual concern, and confirms the determination of the two sides to bring the Vietnam-China ties to a new height," said the editorial entitled "Boosting the Vietnam-China friendly neighborly and comprehensive cooperative relations."

The visit plays an active role in beefing up the friendly and all-round cooperative ties, meeting the aspiration and benefit of the two countries, and encouraging the two peoples, especially young generations to have better mutual understanding and more strongly support each other in socialism construction led by their communist parties, it said.

"The visit is an occasion for the two communist parties, states and peoples of Vietnam and China to enhance mutual understanding, bond and trust... the visit's success is highly appreciated by the public opinion regionally and internationally, and a new lively evidence for the status of Vietnam and China in the multilateral cooperation progress, as well as global and regional issues," the editorial said.

Vietnamese people are willing to spare no efforts to join hands with Chinese people to foster the ever-green friendly and cooperative relations, it said, noting that "the Vietnam-China ties have recently been broadened and deepened in all spheres, resulting in specific results and practical profits."

"The two sides' declaration on the conclusion of the bilateral negotiations about Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization exhibits China's strong support for Vietnam, opening up new cooperation prospect in many fields, especially economy and trade... Vietnam is ready to cooperate with China on long-term and win-win basis in such fields as infrastructure development, mining and electricity," the editorial said.

"The Vietnamese government reaffirms its adherence to the one-China policy, its support for China's cause of national reunification, and its strong opposition to any activity aimed at separating Taiwan from China, supports China's Anti-Secession Law, and welcomes the recent relaxation trend across the Taiwan straits," the editorial said.
