The man mistakenly shot dead by London police hunting four bombers was Brazilian, police confirmed on Saturday.

Police have admitted they shot dead the wrong man on Friday as they combed London for four men after attempted bomb attacks on the city's transport system on Thursday.

A police spokesman named the dead man as Jean Charles de Menezes, a 27-year-old electrician who had been living in London for the last three years.
