Illegally stored explosives blamed for blast in Shanxi

Illegally stored explosives was confirmed to be the cause of the explosion accident which killed one girl and injured other 26, according to local police in Taiyuan Saturday.

The accident happened on Thursday in Tianyuan, capital of north China's Shanxi Province.

A two-story office building collapsed after the explosion whichoccurred at 2:30 p.m. A girl walking nearby was killed. Other 26 injured were hospitalized.

After investigation, Taiyuan police locked down on the suspect Bai, a working staff of the Xishan children park nearby the collapsed office building. Bai was found to illegally buy 50 kg explosives and store them in the nearby warehouse in late June.

High temperature has induced self-ignition of the explosives.

Four of the injured are still in hospital for further check-up and others were already back home.
