The head of Hezbollah's bloc in the Lebanese parliament, Mohammed Raad, said Sunday his party will fight against any attempt to disarm it.
Raad was quoted in Lebanon's newspapers as saying that Hezbollah is a patriotic force following the will of the Lebanese people and that any attempt to disarm it will be considered as an attempt favoring Israel.
"Hezbollah will definitely fight it back," he warned.
Hezbollah, a guerrilla group that fought against an 18-yearoccupation by Israel of south Lebanon from 1982-2000, has rejected the US call for its abandoning weapons in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1559.
Raad said that once the resolution is accepted, the stability of the country will be jeopardized and political disturbances will occur.
Raad said that foreign intervention will turn Lebanon into a stage for regional and international conflicts.
Hezbollah, the only political party with an armed wing at present in Lebanon, has said that it will not drop down weapons as long as the Shebaa Farms is occupied by Israel.
