Once China and the United States reach a consensus on trade management cooperation, China will resume temporary export licenses for textile goods to the United States.
Lu Jianhua, director of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce, made the remark here Monday when answering questions from the press.
After China and the European Union reached a consensus on theirtextile trade disputes after ten-hour-long close-door talks in Shanghai last month, China resumed export licenses for textiles tothe European Union on June 19, only six months after it canceled the export quota, aiming to change the increase mode of the industry and stabilize the export order.
China's Ministry of Commerce has been keeping in touch with US relevant departments on the cooperation in trade management over restrictive textile goods, Lu said.
"The US side has made positive responses, and the two sides arehaving further discussions over some technical issues," said Lu, advising the domestic textile industry to optimize its manufacturestructure and export more high-value-added products to lift up their competitiveness and avoid trade disputes.
As China's trade volume soars, there may be more trade disputesin the future, said Lu, calling for joint efforts by the government and textile enterprises in this regard.
