Chinese textile enterprises should pay attention to alert signals sent by the government on export suspensions to some countries, so as to avoid unnecessary losses caused by foreign restrictive measures and their own blind export plans.
Lu Jianhua, director of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce, made the remark here Monday when answering questions from the press.
According to figures released by US customs, by July 5 the United States had stopped importing China-made cotton shirts as well as cotton and man-made fiber underwear, and by July 8 the United States had stopped importing China-made cotton trousers.
China's Ministry of Commerce and the China Textile Import and Export Chamber have sent alert signals to domestic companies, asking them to suspend exports of some categories of textile goods to the United States due to US restrictive measures.
The US restrictive measures have brought a negative impact to the Chinese industry, causing great uncertainties to Sino-US textile trade, Lu said.
Some domestic enterprises, having no idea about when the quotas will be used up, took the risk of accelerating their manufacture and export pace, which led to the current textile export rocketing in a short time, Lu said.
The quotas set by the United States for cotton shirts, cotton trousers, underwear and fiber shirts have all been used up, said Lu, owing this to US abusing restrictive measures.
China's textile companies may find themselves facing an ambiguous situation of "no quotas left" in the second half of this year, when they want to export to the United States, as the US repeatedly sets limits on China's textile products, said a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce last month.
