China prepares to build world's first 1,000-kv electricity transmission line
font size

Preparations have begun for building an on-off station for a 1,000 kilovolt electricity transmission line in central China's Henan Province.

Experts from the State Power Grid Development Company, China Electric Power Project Consultation Group, Huadong (East China) Electric Power Designing Academy and Henan Provincial Electric Power Company jointly made an on-the-spot investigation in Nanyang city to look for a proper location for the on-off station for the 1,000-kv transmission line, said to be the first of its kind in the world.

The ultrahigh-voltage power transmission line begins in northern part of Shaanxi province, northwest China, and ends at Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province, via southeastern Shanxi Province, Nanyang in Henan and Jingmen in Hubei province.

The line was designed to transmit electricity produced by coal-fired generators with a total capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts in Shaanxi and Shanxi provinces, both of which are rich in coal.

According to plan, construction of the line will begin at the end of the year and is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2007. The transmission line will mainly send electric power from Shaanxi and Shanxi provinces to central China region.

The transmission line will provide 3,000 megavolt-ampere of electric energy to Anyang city alone.
