SW China municipality reports double-digit growth of foreign trade in first half year

Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality registered a foreign trade volume of two billion US dollars in the first six months of this year, up 13.4 percent year-on-year, the latest customs statistics have shown.

The figure included 790 million US dollars in import, 4.3 percent lower than last year's same period, according to the Chongqing Customs. While the national import grew by 14 percent year on year in the same period.

The municipality imported 212,000 tons of beans in the six-month period, which is valued at 62.14 million US dollars, a rise of 3.9 times on a yearly basis. While import of auto parts, iron ore and steel continued to drop.

Electro-mechanical products made up the bulk of the export. In the January-June period, Chongqing exported 730 million US dollars of electro-mechanical products, up 35.6 percent over the corresponding period of last year.

The municipality exported 280 million US dollars of motorcycles, up 18 percent year on year, and its export of textiles and related products grew by 18.8 percent to reach 73.78 million US dollars.

Chongqing's major export destinations include Asia, America and Europe, according to local customs sources.
